Twilight by Avner Gold is the fourth volume in the Ruach Series published by C.I.S./ Publications Division. It adds yet another chapter to the fascinating saga of the Pulichever family, which began with The Promised Child and continued with The Dream and The Year of the Sword. Twilight is set in Poland less than ten years after the Cossack uprisings of 5408 (1648) and 5409 (1649), the infamous years of Tach and Tat, as described in The Year of the Sword. The painful memories of the Cossack sword are still fresh in the minds of the survivors, but there is also hope. The darkness enveloping the Kingdom of Poland is beginning to fade at the edges. It is twilight, that fragile moment that is not quite night and not quite day. It is a time to bind up wounds and begin to build for the future once again. During this twilight time a new element is introduced. Many people hear the footsteps of Mashiach in the fading darkness. It gives them strength and courage, but it also opens a dangerous door. The next volume in the series, The Impostor, describes what happens when the false mashiach Shabbesei Tzvi steps through this door in one of the most disastrous episodes of our history.
